Cotton technology verification trial: minimum tillage method of establishing cotton after rice
General Note
Batac, Ilocos Norte: CRDI, 1988. 12p
Summary, Etc.
This study was conducted in Cubol, Batac, Ilocos Norte from December 1987 to April 1988 to verify and evaluate the workability, performance and productivity of the minimum tillage method of establishing cotton after rice. The different tillage methods evaluated were: conventional, minimum tillage with mulch, and minimum tillage without mulch but with interrow cultivation. Seeds were planted following a row and hill distance of 75 and 30 cm, respectively, while four bags 14-14-14 and two bags 46-0-0 fertilizers per hectare were used. The experimental set-up had six cotton rows, 6m long and laid out in a randomized complete block design replicated three times. Results showed that plant height and number of bolls per plant were significantly affected by the different tillage methods. However, boll weight and seed cotton yield were not affected. Minimum tillage with mulch incurred the highest production expense of P 7719.50/ha. Net income was highest in the conventional method P17,185/ha but benefit-cost ratio (3.87) and return on investment (2.87
