This report of the American Institute of Crop Ecology is one of several summarizing the results of its investigation dealing with the crop ecology of a number of countries of Southeast Asia during the years 1955 to 1958. The author is indebted to a great many agencies and individuals in this country and abroad for their kind co-operation, suggestions and assistance which made this study possible. Valuable assistance in the compilation of data was rendered by Dr. Herbert C. Hanson and Dr. Chi-ling Tung. The author is pleased to express his gratitude to Irma F. Pittman, Ann Carmel and David R. Millar for their exellent teamwork and assistance in organizing and editing material used in this study
