Title Statement
Effect on of gamma radiation on the saccharification of cellulose
Physical Description
1-10
Summary, Etc.
The effect of gamma radiation on the acid and enzymatic saccharification of agricultural cellulosic wastes was investigated. Radiation less of 200 Kgy and higher significantly increased the saccharification of rice straw, rice hull, and corn husk. The observed radiation effects varied with the cellulostic material. Rice straw exhibited the greatest radiosensitivity while rice hull showed the least susceptibility to gamma radiation. Possible mechanisms for the radiation induced degradation of cellulose and agricultural wastes are discussed
