Summary, Etc.This paper is a study on fibrillation of tropical plants and its application to textile products, under a project undertaken by the Philippine Textile Research Institute, National Science Development Board, in cooperation with Japan's Research Institute for Polymers and Textiles and Agency of Industrial Science and Technology.  Research studies were conducted on fibers like pineapple, ramie, abaca and cotton tree or kapok but much of the research work concentrated on pineapple fibers.  The project was divided into two principal stages:  raw material characterization and fiber preparation and processing.
