Title Statement
Field performance and evaluation of tissue culture-derived plants
General Note
College, Laguna: UPLB, IPB, 1987. pp. 144-161. -(IDRC-PCARRD Banana (Philippines) Proj. Sub-proj. 3;
Summary, Etc.
The percentage survival under greenhouse condition preparatory to field planting and the field performance and maintenance of tissue culture-derived and sucker-derived banana suckers were evaluated. The banana cultivars used in the studies were Saba, Lakatan, Morado, and Bungulan. Tissue cultured plantlets had 66-88% survival under greenhouse pretransplant condition. After potting, and when transferred to manure-garden soil mixture prior to field planting, all four cultivars, irrespective of source, become readily established. In field conditions under coconut, the tissue culture-derived plants performed better than sucker-derived plants in terms of plant height, girth measurement, sucker production and flowering. Survival was also highest (100%) in tissue culture-derived plants compared to 97% for sword leaf suckers
