Title Statement
Inheritance of some agronomic characters in sesame
General Note
Munoz, Nueva Ecia: Central Luzon State University, 1993. pp. 52-53
Summary, Etc.
Sesame has two types of fruiting (clustered and single types) and branching habits (branching and non-branching or monoculum type). A cluster fruiting type crossed to a single fruiting type produced a single or cluster type F1.The F1 progenies did not follow a distinct pattern. Most of the F2 data of the different crosses could be fitted to a 13:3 (single:cluster ratio) indicating a presence of genes suppressing the expression of the cluster character. Some had 1:1 ratio. Thus, it was presumed that there are two genes controlling the cluster character, the expression of which is being suppressed by inhibitory gene. But when a branching type was crossed to a non-branching type, all the F1's were non-branching. Among the 15 crosses, three segregation ratios were observed in the F2, namely: 9:7, 3:1 and 1:1. The first two ratios could indicate complementary gene action while the last ratio still needs further verification
