Title Statement
Determination of pest complex and succession on various recommended or established cropping patterns
General Note
College, Laguna: UPLB, NCPC, 1983. pp. 32-46. -(PCARRD Proj. No. 946; Study 2)
Summary, Etc.
The study was conducted in Urdaneta, Pangasinan and Sta. Rosa, Laguna where rice-mungbean and rice-watermelon cropping patterns were practiced, respectively. For each site, three to five fields were chosen for observation throughout the cropping season. Three paddies for each field were used as sampling areas. Actual counting of insect pests was undertaken for each cropping/pattern. The reduction in rice pest population with the use of rice-mungbean or rice-watermelon cropping pattern could be used as pest control strategy. Insect pests of rice particularly brown planthopper (BPH) and green leafhopper (GLH) were lower under these cropping pattern schemes. Rice whorl maggot was also reduced under rice-mungbean cropping pattern. Aphids and lepidopterous larvae started to increase in density at 28 days after planting. Control measures against these pests could be done at this stage
