Title Statement
Gluability of rotary-cut sapwood and heartwood veneers from apitong (Dipterocarpus grandiflorus Blco.)
General Note
College, Laguna: UPLB, [n.d.]. 21p
Summary, Etc.
Some 160 panels of 3-ply 3/8" x 12" plywood were made out of apitong sapwood and heartwood veneers to determine their differences in gluebond formation for exterior-type plywood. The influences of two resin adhesive systems: phenol formaldehyde with Cascofil filler (PFC 25) and with Norprofil filler (PFN 22) and assembly time (5, 20, 50 and 80 minutes)) on gluebond quality were also determined. The glue-mix ages (GMA) were of five levels: 5, 55, 110, 220, and 330 minutes. The best gluebonds were obtained in the GMA range of 10 to 220 minutes for PFC 25 resin with heartwood substrates. Panels of heartwood-to-heartwood interfaces with PFC 25 phenolic resin adhesive at GMA of 55-220 minutes at assembly time of 50 or 80 minutes, including GMA of 10 minutes at assembly time of 80 minutes, developed glueliness which passed the US PSI-74. Apitong sapwood plywood was unable to produce exterior-type gluebond. This was due to its highly porous nature or high degree of permeability
