Title Statement
Local materials as substitute for imported papermaking additives
General Note
College, Laguna: FPRDI, 1986. 90p
Summary, Etc.
Paper additives from local indigenous raw materials were prepared. These were enzyme-converted starch using alpha-amylase enzyme from pig's pancreas, oxidized starch from gabing San Fernando and cassava tubers, rosin-paste size from almaciga resin, and defoamer utilizing lumbang seed oil. The performance of these additives were compared with commercially available paper additives namely: Bacterial Amylase Novo (BAN), a commercial alpha-amylase enzyme; Panda corn starch, and defoamers GR 885 and GR 878. The experimental additives were found comparable, if not superior to the commercial additives in most of the properties studied. While the starches and defoamer showed good prospects in industrial applications, the rosin-paste size needs further modification to make it more suitable for application. Due to the conflicting results during experimentation the study failed to identify the most suitable amount of additive desirable to enhance certain or specific paper properties
