General NoteCollege, Laguna: Forest Product Research and Development Institute, 1992. 27 p
Summary, Etc.Sixty-five bamboo pole traders from Pangasinan, Bataan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Batangas, Rizal and Laguna were interviewed to determine and assess the market distribution, estimate harvesting and marketing costs of bamboo poles, and identify problems in the marketing system. Bamboo poles could be bought direct from plantations, wholesalers, or retailers. The average harvesting and marketing costs were P12.05 and P7.34/pole, respectively. The average farm gate, wholesale and retail prices per pole were P24.30, P45.29 and P54.39, respectively. Kawayan tinik (Bambusa blumeana) was the major species sold. Some of the problems identified in the marketing systems were: inadequate market information between provinces, lack of standard grading system, and "tong" collection which was subsequently passed to consumers by way of higher prices
