Summary, Etc.The students were found to be readers with varied interests from books to periodicals. Their main reasons for reading are to gain information, to answer assignments given by teachers. The male respondents like to read the business section of the newspapers while the female respondents like to read the editorial section. Romance and religious books appeal to females while science appeals to males. Efficient library services contributes to their reading interests. The main sources of the respondents' reading materials were the library and the home
There were 323 students enrolled at Lipa Adventist Academy, Bugtong, Lipa City for the school year 1993-1994 who participated in this study. Specifically this study seeks to determine the factors that contribute to their reading interests; identify the materials they read; determine their reasons for reading; determine the role being played by the library in their reading interests; and know the sources of their materials. The hypotheses tested are whether there are significant relationships existing between age, sex, occupations of parents, and library services in the reading interests of the students of LAA
This study recommends that teachers should continue giving relevant assignments that will hold students' interests in reading. Librarian should provide up-to-date books and periodicals in the library for different age groups; provide more reading materials in dormitories; develop anecdotal journal and interest inventory; and establish classroom libraries. For the LAA administrators, they should continue the evaluation/selection of books for the library acceptable to the standards of the Seventh-day Adventist church; and should promote the services offered by the library. For parents, they should guide their children in the choice of reading materials and if possible give gifts of books to their children
This study was conducted to determine the reading interests of the Lipa Adventist Academy students. There is a need to identify these reading interests in order to satisfy the needs of the students. The school that prepares for service, the Lipa Adventist Academy, can strengthen her services by providing appropriate reading materials in the library
