Title Statement
Effects of planting date and soil texture on percent germination and seedling stand
General Note
Batac, Ilocos Norte: CRDI, 1987. 23p
Summary, Etc.
This study was carried out from September 1988 to February 1987 in three different soil textures, namely: light, medium and heavy under screenhouse conditions. The percent germination and seedling vigor index were significantly higher in earlier sowing dates (September to November). The soil texture did not significantly affect percent germination, however, highest germination was in heavy soils. Total dry matter on the other hand, was highest in light soils. Regardless of soil type, highest germination and total dry matter yield were obtained from earlier sowing dates. Results indicated that the ideal sowing time for the cotton crop to have a good stand was from September to November.
