General Note
-(PCARRD-DOST Funded Proj.; Proj. 1 - Study 1)
Summary, Etc.
This study tested the applicability of existing microbially-based fertilizer technologies as effective, practical and economical alternatives to chemical fertilizers in reforestation. Results showed that the growth of seedlings as affected by mycorrhiza,
Rhizobium
or their combinations varied from nursery to nursery. The best height and diameter growth of
Acacia auriculiformis
was obtained in Aklan site. The intermediate growth response was observed in trees that were inoculated with either
Rhizobium
or mycorrhiza in combination with either organic or chemical fertilizers. For
A. mangium
, the best height was in Camarines Sur while the best diameter growth was in Aklan site. The best height and diameter growth was observed in trees that were given chemical fertilizers alone or in combination with
Rhizobium
, mycorrhiza and all the treatments combined. In the Camarines Sur site the best growth of
Pterocarpus indicus
was observed in trees that were fertilized with inorganic form alone or in combination with mycorrhiza. The results suggested that the test trees can attain their best if supplied with inorganic fertilizer alone or in combination with mycorrhizza and
Rhizobium
. Mycorrhiza and
Rhizobium
alone were not enough to effect good growth
