Summary, Etc.This thesis is based on the study of site planning and open space design of the NHA-Medium-Rise Housing projects and their implications on the behavior of the residents. In response to the problem of the NHA on the Medium-Rise Housing projects residents' non-payments of accounts; non-attendance to meetings and other functions; non-supportive of any projects or rules being introduced; and reported incidence of criminality, this research was undertaken to somehow minimize these problems. This researcher have identified the problems produced by the two NHA-MRH projects in Pag-Asa and Mandaluyong; analyzed the factors affecting the behavior and attitude of the people living in them; supported remedies for Pag-Asa condominium project and recommended some guidleines that maybe incorporated in the existing guidelines currently used by the NHA. The research method employed in the study is descriptive method, to describe the nature of the site plan, open space design and behavior of the residents of Pag-Asa and Hulo-Silva MRH projects as they exists and to explore the causes of particular facts. The step done to ascertain the extent to which the physical plan and design of housing is in itself a variable affecting behavior was to account for the other factors that also influence behavior. A fair test of hypothesis therefore requires a comparison of two NHA-MRH projects that differs in physical characteristics and socio-economic profile of the residents. These factors that affect the behavior of the residents coupled with the surveys, interviews, location and extent of criminal acts and statistical treatment have enabled this researcher to test two hypotheses. The hypotheses are 1.) the relationship among the physical layout, the residents' level of social interaction and vulnerability to criminal activities and 2.) the perception of the residents on social interaction and vulnerability to criminal activities to variables such as, gender, age, civil status, size of family, educational attainment, employment status, family income, income level, type of tenants and target market versus present occupants. The study concludes that site planning and open space are interrelated with the social, interaction and criminal acts of the residents of NHA-MRH projects. In this case, it is therefore necessary that the perceived behavior of the beneficiaries shall be incorporated in planning and designing the sites of the NHA-MRH housing projects
