Title Statement
The production of Semi-biodegradable plastic using polysterene, wood flour from sawdust and shell flour from peanut shells
Physical Description
(S-21);25p
Summary, Etc.
The objective of the project is to produce a semi-biodegradable plastic using wood flour, shell flour and polystyrene. Wood flour and shell flour were mixed respectively in the ratio of 1.10g:0g: II.5g:5g: III.og:10g. These different ratios were the blocking ratios. The four treatment depended on the varying amounts of polystyrene per ratio. Treatment A served as t he control, replicates under these treatment were styrofoam. Treatment B was the inclusion of 25g polystyrene in the mixtures of wood flour & shell flour; tr5eatment C was the inclusion of 30g polystyrene; and treatment D, 35g. There were three replicates per treatment. These products were physically mixed. These products underwent physical tests such as strength, flammability and water absorbency. It was found that the plastic consisting of ten grams of wood flour and twenty-five grams of polystyrene has the best properties. It is comparable to styrofoam in water resistance. It is stronger than styrofoam and does not burn as easily
