Antimicrobial potential of endophytic fungi isolated from the Leaves of
Origanum vugare
,
Psidium guajava
and
Chrysophyllum cainito
Physical Description
45-48
Summary, Etc.
Endophytic fungi are a group of fungi that live within a plant without causing a disease. They are endosymbionts. This study isolated endophytic fungi from Chrysophyllum cainito (Star apple), Origanum vulgare (Oregano), and Psidium guajava (Guava). Endofungal isolates were grown in a special Potato dextrose agar (PDA) and a colony was selected to prepare a pure culture. Endofungal isolates were tested for antimicrobial activity by agar well diffusion method. All the endofungal isolates displayed significant antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and the endophytic fungi in Psidium guajava displayed the strongest antibacterial activity. Results from the present study proves that endophytic fungi could be a promising source of antimicrobial agents
