Summary, Etc.Eleven promising line selections, six of the dry bean type and five of the snap bean type (bush sitao) were selected and evaluated for high yield and other desirable characters in five locations for 2 years. There was a great difference in yield and other characters among the selections of both types. VCS 6-12 LG and VCS 6-1 both determine dry bean types gave the highest average seed yields of 1.33 and 1.26 tons per hectare respectively, outyielding the control varieties. Both lines are early maturing and tolerant to Fusarium stem and root rot. VCS 6-12 a determine line was a better yielder than BPI improved green no. 2 a variety of viny growth habit. Of the snap bean types, VCS 23 outyielded the control varieties with an ave rage yield of 9.17 tons of fresh pods per hectare. VCS 23 is early maturing dark green podded and resistant to bean rust. VCS 6-12 LG, VCS 6-1 and VCS 23 were approved by the Philippine seaboard for release as recommended varieties with the following varietal names, UPL Cp3, UPL Cpl, and UPL BS4, respectively
