$aForty-two sweet potato genotypes composed of a susceptible check CI 973-12, four VSP and 37 promising varieties/hybrids/selections were used in this study. The genotypes had varying levels of resistance to scab (
Sphaceloma batatas
Saw.) infection under laboratory and screenhouse evaluations. These were field-tested for five consecutive croppings at the Abuyog (Leyte) Experiment Station. Twenty genotypes exhibited a relatively stable resistance to scab infection, with ratings falling within the moderate and high resistance levels. Inoculum pressure, pathogen acclimatization, favorable climatic conditions and unstable resistance of the crop may have influenced the development of the scab disease in the host plant.
