Title StatementSociology of ranch-type carabao production in Central and Northern Luzon
General NoteMunoz, Nueva Ecija: CLSU, 1984. 135p
Summary, Etc.This research project studied the psycho-social and economic data based on the ranch-type carabao raisers in Regions II and III, including the indigenous technology on carabao ranch-type management operation. Thirty-five respondents were selected from the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Nueva Ecija. Some 22 different management practices on carabao production were employed by the carabao raisers in varying extent. Traditional practices commonly employed by the respondents were setting off marks on the animal, castrating, herding, wallowing, providing water to drink and confining the animal at night. Feeding with concentrates, selective breeding, culling and selecting were not popularly practiced. Moreover, breeding by artificial insemination was not widely accepted because of difficulty in determining the estrus sign. The ranchers' wives and female children's participation in carabao ranch-type activities was nil. Decisions on feeding, castrating and herding depended on the number of carabaos owned, size of pasture land and family income
