$aGreenbreaks were planted using lantana (Lantana camara), Eucalyptus camaldulensis, wild-sunflower (Thithonia diversifolia), maguey, and alnus to determine which plant species could serve as greenbreaks and their rate of recovery after a fire. Of the five species evaluated for fire resistance, only alnus was found not suitable for greenbreak planting. The high survival of the other four species and the subsequent postfire development of more sprouts that resulted in a higher plant crown cover indicated their suitability for use in greenbreaks construction. Except for maguey, the other three species had five adaptations through the formation of sprouts. Since the species studied were considered for the highland areas of Benguet, separate plants should be determined for different sites.
