Title Statement
Effect of spacing on the hydrologic behavior and biomass production of Alnus (Alnus maritima Nutt.)
General Note
Loakan, Baguio City: DENR, ERDB Cordillera Administrative Region, 1988. 14p. -(PCARRD Funded)
Summary, Etc.
The study was conducted from July 1, 1985 to June 30, 1988 at the foot of Mt. Sto. Tomas, Tuba, Benguet to determine the hydrologic behavior and biomass production of alnus (Alnus maritima Nutt.) at different spacings. Alnus seedlings were raised in seedbeds and later potted in 10x15 cm polyethylene pots before they were outplanted in the prepared plots. Four blocks divided into four plots measuring 10x10 m were subjected to the following treatments: plot A, 0.5x1.0 m spacing, 231 seedlings outplanted; plot B, 1x1 m, 121 seedlings; plot C, 1x2 m, 66 seedlings; and plot D, 2x2 m, 36 seedlings. Soil infiltration and physico-chemical characteristics were determined at the end of the study. Results showed that spacing had no effect on the survival, total height and diameter growth of alnus, biomass, soil erosion and infiltration, and some physico-chemical properties of the soil. This result could be attributed to the short duration of the study
