$aA Fundamental knowledge of Statistics can prove very useful, indeed. The presentation of information is definitely more persuasive if it is backed up by facts. And facts are dug up by research which must, as a matter of course, rely on statistical tools. It is hardly necessary to argue that statistical literacy has become indispensable in almost any field today. Statistical data pervade the language of the physical and social sciences. It is quite unfortunate, however, that the potentially warm enthusiasm of students being introduced to Statistics as a subject is prevented from being realized by certain ways, both in the classroom and in textbooks, by which principles and concepts are communicated.  Many current techniques of instruction give students the impression that Statistitcs in some sort of esoteric subject wrought with complicated formulas and procedures which at times appear meaningless and irrelevant. On the other hand, the authors of this book have opted to student-oriented in their approach, and have consciously strived for simplicity and clarity in style. They have also endeavored to show the relevance and interrelations of several statistical concepts and principles and to explain their similarities and differences. This book proceeds from the assumption that for students, only that which they understand can be useful and meaningful. It aims to arouse the interest of students in what really is an interesting subject. Although it helps fill a need for a medium of effective instruction, the book makes no claim to being flawless or all-encompassing in its scope. Rather, being an introductory material, it covers the fundamental concepts in a manner which the authors hope will stimulate students to pursue in earnest further studies in Statistics.0
