General NoteCollege, Laguna: UPLB, CF, 1985. 20p. -(PCARRD-IBRD Forestry Project Study No. 2.2)
Summary, Etc.Albizia falcataria (Moluccan sau) stumps produced sprouts at the basal region (root collar), side (epicormic) and top (stool) of the stump cambial region. Sprouting occurred two weeks after cutting the trees. Final coppice stand/crop can be selected from stumps of trees of small pole size (5 cm dbh) up to standard size (60 cm). Trees cut flush and/or 15 cm above ground level developed more vigorous sprouts, exhibiting a high rate of survival. Based on vigor and survival, the stool and/or epicormic sprouts proved to be the best coppice crop. The slow rate of callus formation exposed the wood to decaying organism. Cavities at the center of the stump were more prevalent and advanced in stumps of smaller diameter but had faster callus formation
