The study involved two parts: a time series data on the demand, supply and price of lumber from 1980 to 1986, and a survey on the performance of 38 sawmills operators in the country. Of the sawmill firms evaluated, five were considered on small-scale (daily rated capacity of 10,000 bd ft and below), 21 medium (daily rated capacity of 10,001-20,000 bd ft), and 12 large-scale (daily rated capacity of 20,001 bd ft and above) operation. The average monthly net income was highest in large-scale operations (P2,534,421.00), followed by medium-scale (P577,295.00) and small-scale (P325,571.00) operations. The profitability relationship of the small-scale industry was 30%
