Summary, Etc.The study was conducted under a completely randomized design with equal subsamples of 18-24 months old high grade Nellore-Brahman heifers. Animals raised under Treatment G (paragrass+centrosema with 2 animal unit (a.u.)/ha), Treatment D (para grass+ 100 k/ha per year (KHY) of nitrogen with 2 a.u./ha), and Treatment E (para grass alone + 200 KHY of nitrogen with 3 a.u./ha) had unadjusted liveweight gain of 155.875, 153.083 and 156.583 KHY, respectively. These were significantly higher (P<.05) than those of Treatment A (cogon pasture alone stocked at 1 a.u./ha) with77.458 KHY and Treatment B (cogon pasture + centrosema stocked at1 a.u./ha) with 94.126 KHY. However, no significant difference was noted among treatment means of both the native (cogon) and paragrass pastures. The fresh herbage productivity were 78.5 t for the para grass + centrosema, 70.6 t for para grass alone fertilized with 100 KHY N, and 72.6 t/ha for para grass alone fertilized with 200 KHY N. These mean herbage yields were significantly higher (P<.05) than those obtained by cogon pasture with 21.2 t and cogon+ centrosema with 27.2 t of fresh herbage/ha. The percentage herbage consumption in these pastures were 54.7, 54.8, 65.4, 63.2 and 66.4%
