Title StatementVarietal screening for resistance to bunchy top and fusarium wilt
General NoteCollege, Laguna: UPLB, 1986. 9p. -(Sub-Proj. 1B; Study 1)
Summary, Etc.Thirty-nine banana cultivars were inoculated and evaluated for resistance to bunchy top, while 34 were screened for resistance to Fusarium wilt. For the bunchy top resistance study, no positive infection was obtained on Tindok (AAB), Matavia (ABB), Pundol (ABB), Katali (ABB), Mundo (BBB) and Abuhon (BBB). Those cultivars showing resistance (Matavia, Mundo, Tindok, and Katali) and moderate resistance (Inangel, Maduranga and Turangkong) were reinoculated to confirm their resistance to bunchy top. Observations were still going on. On the other hand, screening for resistance to Fusarium wilt showed three cultivars (gubao, tiparot and bungaoisan) with zero infection. Twenty-six banana cultivars are now growing in vitro and eventually will be used in screening for resistance to Fusarium wilt. Field screening for resistance to Sigatoka and Blackcross also showed a high degree of Sigatoka leafspotting on AAA and AAB varieties. Cultivars belonging to ABB and BBB genomes exhibited low Sigatoka infections. The Acuminata cultivars (AA and AAA) had low Blackcross infections
