This study was conducted in Pampanga (Magalang, Arayat and Porac), Bataan (Dinalupihan, Limay and Bagac) and Zambales (Sta. Cruz, Masinloc and Iba) to determine the impact of some of the aspects of the agroforestry program on the socioeconomic well-being of farmers in those selected upland communities. Most of the farmer-respondents were more than 20 years old, finished primary to intermediate grades, have been with the Integrated Social Forestry Project (ISFP) for more than five years and a few of them were allocated lands by the government. The ISFP brought about increase in area devoted to crop production, use of different varieties of crops planted, increase production of seeds, value and volume of production of crops and livestock. Prices received for crops and livestock were considered "fair enough", although the farmers preferred to sell produce on A wholesale basis. Forest fires and road inaccessibility were the foremost problems identified by the upland farmers. The solutions proposed were: identification of lending institutions that will not require collaterals/guarantors, and construction of roads and bridges. The perceived benefits derived from the project were"increased income" and "children were sent to school."
