$aStudies showed that 24 isolates were resistant to at least one of the test drugs, namely ampicillin with sulbactam, amikacin, gentamicin, tobramycin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and nalidixic acid. 18 isolates showed multiple resistance to as many as 5 drugs. Conjugation studies showed that all the isolates were able to transfer their resistance to E. coli. 3 isolates transferred all of the resistance tested while the other 10 isolates transferred only some of their resistance.
