$aThis study was an assessment of the extent of effectiveness of the recruitment and selection practices in the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). This study further investigated the problems that the management should look into in terms of recruitment and selection practices to address the need for recruiting competent and qualified candidates. In terms of methodology, this study utilized quantitative research design, particularly, descriptive research design. Simple frequency count, Percentage, Ranking, Mean, Standard Deviation, Two-Tailed T-test, and Z-test were used to obtain results. A total of 192 respondents, consist of 24 supervisors and 168 rank-and-file employees of PAGASA participated in this study through the use of purposive sampling. The respondents' perception on the extent of effectiveness of the Recruitment Practices in the agency, when taken as a whole, was effective to a great extent. On the otherhand, the Selection Practices were perceived to a slight extent effective. Using t-test, it revealed that there were no significant differences between the perceptions of the supervisors and rank-and-file respondents as regards the effectiveness of implementation of both recruitment and selection practices. Furthermore, as regards with the problems that the management should look into, indicator no. 2 (i.e., the policies on recruitment and selection are not known to all) ranked first among the 10 problems. Likewise, using Z-test, the results indicated that, statistically, the proportion between the two groups for all items pertaining to the problems encountered in RP and SP in the agency did not differ with each other. Based on the result of the study, a proposed enhancement program is suggested by the researcher.
