Production of coconut parquet on a cottage level
General Note
College, Laguna: FPRDI, 1983. 37p
Summary, Etc.
Locally fabricated equipment for the processing of coconut timber into parquet was designed and developed to provide farmers with alternative source of livelihood during the replanting period of coconut. Survey showed that the Philippine parquet industry has a potential for future development and growth despite the problems besetting the industry. Based on this, a pilot plant was established in Barangay Hanagdon, Sariaya, Quezon wherein two low-cost equipment appropriate for the breakdown of short coconut trunk into lumber slats for parquet were designed and fabricated. These were the small-scale portable circular sawmill and the light-weight multiripsaw. Preliminary tests showed that the equipment were practical for portable sawing operations like coconut trunk milling inside plantations and recovery operations in logging areas. The technology was found to be simple, easy to operate, required low cost of production, and practical since it adapts to the capacity and needs of the rural workers
