Title Statement
Different cropping system with corn as the main crop for typical upland areas with other crops
General Note
Ilagan, Isabela: Bureau of Plant Industry, 1978. 42 p
Summary, Etc.
Five cropping systems were evaluated during the first year (1975-1976) of the study and two cropping patterns were added in the succeeding two years to confirm the best cropping combination. The crops involved in the cropping system were flint corn (DMR Comp. I), glutinous corn (Glut. Syn. 22), bush sitao #1, mungo, sorghum, peanut, cowpea and EG bush sitao #2. The highest yield (3.91t/ha) in the first year cropping was obtained in the glutinous corn-mungo-sorghum cropping pattern which gave a combined income of P 3130/ha. While the highest net income in the 1976-77 cropping sequence was derived from the cropping pattern flint corn-fallow-flint corn (P1883.40/ha) with an average yield of 4.5 t/ha. In the 1977-78 crop year, the highest yield of 6.25 t/ha was derived from the cowpea-glutinous corn-cowpea combination but the highest net profit was obtained in the scheme consisting of flint corn-fallow-flintcorn (P2,100.30/ha). Multiple cropping using legumes greatly increased the over-all productivity and net income of the farmer. However, complete cropping scheme of multiple crops could be realized if irrigation facilities are available during drought months
