Title StatementDevelopment of suitable management schemes for mungbean and peanut grown under randomly planted coconut
General NoteAbuyog, Leyte: AES, 1987. 22p. -(RRDP-PCARRD Proj.; Study 2)
Summary, Etc.A cultural management scheme for mungbean and peanut tolerant to shade was compared with the farmer's practice under coconut. Recommended mungbean (IPBM 79-13-60) and (BPI P9) line/variety were used in the study. The treatment were arranged as follows: T1-recommended variety (RV) + recommended package of technology (POT), T2-farmers variety (FV) + POT and T3-FV + farmers practice (FP). Pag-asa 1 was the mungbean variety used by the farmers. In mungbean, T2 outyielded all the other treatments while T3 gave the least yield. Treatment 2 had 57.10 and 85.96% marginal rate of return over T3 for the first and second year, respectively. For peanut, RV + POT gave significantly higher yield compared with FV + FP but comparable with FV + POT. The gross and net benefits of RV + POT were highest in both years. Planting of mungbean and peanut under coconut trees increased nut production by 85% in the second year. Net benefit was consistently highest in RV + POT while FV + POT was lowest due to low yield and high cost of production
