Title Statement
Study on the feasibilities of growing selected mangrove species along lowland creeks
General Note
College, Laguna: FORI, 1981. 26p. -(PCARR Proj. No. 380; Study 5)
Summary, Etc.
The adaptability to freshwater upland creeks of five mangrove species namely: Heritiera littoralis (Dungon-late), Xylocarpus gramatum (Tabigi), Rhizophora apiculata (Bakauan-lalaki), R. mucronata (Bakauan-babae), and Bruguiera parviflora (Langarai) was studied during the dry and wet seasons. The five species could be raised in freshwater upland creeks but must be limited because of poor light requirement. The diameter growth of the five species fluctuated within the year and was mostly affected by season of outplanting. Dry season planting was found more suitable. Significant height increment occurred one year after establishment. Based on height growth, Dungon-late and Tabigi were the most adapted mangrove species to the upland freshwater creeks. Tests using other mangrove species should be done to broaden or widen the raising distribution of mangrove species
