Title StatementStudy of cropping patterns in Camarines Sur Santos R. Balderas, Charlito P. Cadag
Physical Description78p
Summary, Etc.This study was conducted among 1008 farmers representing the different agroecological zones purposively sampled from the entire province of Camarines Sur. The information from the farmer respondents were gathered through rapid rural appraisal (RRA) method and structured/formal interview using the farming systems research approach (FSRA). Percentages, means and ranking were used to describe the background information of the farmer respondents. Generally, farmers in the low socioeconomic status did not practice relevant and appropriate cropping patterns due to lack of knowledge and/or techical know-how, and lack of necessary inputs for production. Farmers with bigger farm size were more innovative than those with smaller size of landholdings. They adopted a more relevant and appropriate cropping pattern involving two or more commodities. Farmers with smaller farm size practiced cropping patters which they developed according to personal experiences. Farm families whose income was low opted for bicommodity (rice + another commodity) production system. The presence of high supportive factors and favorable environmental factors contributed to the adoption of relevant and appropriate cropping patterns. Farmers in depressed areas like those in flood-prone areas were more resistant to adopt recommended improved farm practices. In general, farmers who had high aspirations in life were fast adoptors of recommended farming systems practices than those with low or simple aspirations in life
