The Special Tropical Cyclone Reconnaissance Information Dissemination and Damage Evaluation (STRIDE) team investigation report on typhoon Emong is presented. Typhoon Emong which occurred during the southwest monsoon season, hit extreme northern Luzon. It devastated several areas and exited through the Formosa Strait. The highest Public Storm Warning Signals (PSWS) raised were PSWS #3 over northwestern Cagayan, Calayan Islands and Batanes area as early as 4:30 a.m. on 22 June 2001 and PSWS #2 over most parts of Luzon. Based on radar, satellite and surface data, the center of typhoon Emong passed close to Basco, Batanes on 22 June 2001 at 5:00 p.m. The lowest Mean Sea Level Pressure (MSLP) recorded was 992.3 hPa at Calayan, Cagayan on 22 June 2001 at 5:00 p.m. The highest recorded wind speed was 125 kph with gustiness of 180 kph at Basco, Batanes on 22 June 2001 at 7:00 p.m. The highest 24-hour rainfall was 273.4 mm at Laoag City, Ilocos Norte on 22 June 2001. Survey results indicate the occurrence of mudflows in Sta. Fe, Nueva Viscaya, with pictures and video footages showing the flooding in Gattaran Forest Park, Cagayan. There was no physical signs of wind damages. In addition, there was a reported landslide in Naguilian road going to Baguio City. Most of the storm warning signals raised over seven synoptic stations were within the lead time when compared to the observed maximum wind speed
