Title StatementStudies on the adaptability of a stylo in acidic marginal grasslands
General NoteMunoz, Nueva Ecija: CLSU, 1985. 9p
Summary, Etc.The effects of different cutting frequencies (every 45 days, 90 days, twice a year and once a year) and methods of seeding (dibbling and broadcasting) on the yield of three stylo-varieties: Seca, Verano and Cook stylo were studied. The most suitable variety under acidic marginal grassland on the basis of herbage yield, chemical composition and resistance to anthracnose was also evaluated. Broadcasting method of seeding for Seca stylo was better than dibbling. However, method of seeding for Cook and Verano style had no significant difference in dry matter yield. Cutting frequencies of 45 days, 90 days and twice a year were better in all varieties tested compared to once a year cutting, except twice a year cutting for Verano stylo. Similarly, crude protein of the three cutting frequencies were significantly higher than once a year cutting. Management and cutting frequency had no significant effect on the seed yield of the three stylo varieties. Cook stylo produced significantly higher seed yield than Seca and Verano stylo. The possible reasons for this result were discussed. Signs indicating the presence of anthracnose and other diseases were not observed in all varieties tested. However, Verano stylo ceased to grow during summer while Seca and Cook thrived year round
