Title StatementWoodwastes utilization for particleboard manufacture in the Philippines
General NoteCollege, Laguna: FPRDI, 1983. 12p
Summary, Etc.Woodwastes materials like log ends, planer shavings, trimmings and cores of Shorea contorta vid. (white lauan), Shorea negrosensis Foxw. (red lauan) and Shorea polysperma (Alco) Merr. (tanguile) were manufactured into one-layer and three-layer particleboards of 30 x 30 cm singly or in mixture. The particleboards were tested in terms of their bending strength, internal bond, face-screw-holding and thickness swelling. One-layer board manufactured from 100% log end chips exhibited the highest bending strength (23.8 MPa), internal bond (686 kPa), face-screw-holding (611 N) and thickness stability (12%). On the otherhand, one-layer board manufactured from 100% planer shavings had lower bending strength (13.4 MPa), internal bond (539 kPa), face-screw-holding (498 N) and had a moderate thickness swelling (14%). Bending strength decreased with an increase in planer shavings content. Three-layer board with 100% planer shavings as surface materials and 100% log ends chips as core materials exhibited high bending strength (19.3 MPa), internal bond (457 KPa) and face-screw-holding (549 N). At 50% planer shavings and 50% log ends chips as surface materials and 100% log ends chips as core materials, boards exhibited low thickness swelling properties (7.13%). All other boards manufactured from the woodwastes were comparable to the type 150 and 200 of the Japanese Industrial standard for particleboards
