Title Statement
Studies on the induced breeding and larval rearing of mullet (Mugil sp.)
General Note
Tabaco, Albay: BUCF, 1980. 39p. -(PCARR Proj. No. 698)
Summary, Etc.
Mullet fry and fingerlings were collected from the coastal areas of Tabaco, Albay for induced breeding and larval rearing. Mullet fry and fingerlings were mostly found in mangrove areas and seashore. The common species caught in large quantities were Mugil kelaarti, M. macrolepis and M. waigiensis. Peak seasons for fry and fingerlings were from March to May and from June to August, respectively. Transport of mullet at five pieces polyethylene bag half-filled with water and without oxygenation resulted to 83.3% survival. Fish with an average length of 3.75 cms stocked in concrete tanks at the rate of 20-fish/sq m obtained an average mortality of three percent. Artificial breeding was not successful in the rearing of fry and fingerlings. Growth of mullet was faster in hapas than in tanks and aquaria. The feed consisting of 38% fine rice bran, 50% dried anchovies, 10% corn meal and 2% vitamins gave the best growth on fish reared in aquaria for 60 days
