This study was undertaken to determine whether C-reactive protein (CRP) can be used as a parameter in identifying the time point when antibiotic treatment can safely be discontinued in a defined major groups of neonates treated for suspected bacterial infection. This was a quasi-experimental study with three treatment arms. All neonates with suspected bacterial infection enrolled in this study were first tested for CRP. Subjects that were found negative for CRP were enrolled into Group A.
