Title StatementComparative pulping of Caribbean pine and Benguet pine
General NoteCollege, Laguna: FPRDI, 1985. 38p
Summary, Etc.Nine logs Pinus caribaea Morelet (Caribbean pine) with diameters and lengths ranging from 18.7 to 36.2 cm and from 250 to 259 cm, respectively, were examined to determine their morphological, chemical and pulping properties. The foregoing properties of P. caribaea were compared with those of the Pinus kesiya (Benguet pine), using samples with kappa numbers 25, 30 and 35 for both species. A randomized complete block design and linear regression analysis were used in the study. Findings indicated that Caribbean pine with an average of 22 growth rings had a mean density of 394 kg/cu m while Benguet pine with an average of 99 growth rings had a mean density of 552 kg/cu m. Caribbean pine had an average screened yield of 49.83, 43.10 and 43.34%
