Summary, Etc.
In view of the study conducted, the two major recommendations are advised: 1) Preschool libraries must put colorful posters and illustrations to make the library look more lively and gay. This will create an inviting atmosphere that will surely attract preschoolers to visit the library and use the library materials. 2) Besides white or light blue, preschool libraries must use other stimulating colors such as red. In addition, preschool libraries must also blend various colors in the library harmoniously. This can be achieved by changing the color of the walls, tables, chairs, bookshelves or floors every month. Since red is the most fascinating color for preschoolers, this must always be present in the library
The library is one of the agents in the process of developing reading skills and can foster motivation. Because of these, librarians, especially those who cater to preschoolers, have the responsibility of improving the library's environmental conditions to enhance preschoolers to make active use of the library. One of the ways of achieving this role is by putting colorful and dynamic visual materials. Moreover, presenting the materials in a living, challenging, and safe environment will retain the preschoolers' enthusiasm for the library (Bertelsen 1983). Indeed, visual materials can contribute in stimulating the preschoolers' interest in printed text, can assist in encouraging preschoolers to read, and can help in the development of the preschoolers' imagination and creativity
The researcher concluded that preschoolers can be motivated to read books. This can be done using their preferences such as color and decorations in the library. They will become interested when they see colored visual materials in their surrounding. Initially, these will stir their curiosity which will lead to reading books. In addition, preschoolers find the color red the most fascinating among the three primary colors. This could be applied in the walls of the library as well as with the furnishings such as tables, chairs, curtains, book covers and others. Preschoolers will be willing to read books every time they see their favorite color
The researcher conducted two experiments in two separate preschool libraries: New Era University Preschool Library and Torch of Life Learning Center Library. Two statistical methods were used in this study: one-sample t test and paired sample sign test. The alpha level was set at 0.05 and 0.01 for all statistical analysis
The study revealed the following major findings: 1) Preschoolers are inspired to read books when they see colored visual materials. 2) The color red can stimulate the preschoolers to use the library books. Blue and yellow have the same effect to preschoolers. 3) Visual preferences of preschoolers are effective tools to encourage them to read
This study aimed to determine the visual preferences of preschoolers, specifically colors and decorations, that encouraged them to read books
