Title StatementPropagation of promising pili strains by stem cutting and air layering
General NoteCollege, Laguna: UPLB, 1981. var. p. -(PCARRD-IPB Proj. No. 824; Study 1)
Summary, Etc.Pili strains were subjected to various experiments in stem cutting and air layering. Terminal shoots planted in mist bed with sand as rooting medium failed to survive. However, ringing of shoots before cutting induced callus formation two weeks after planting and initiated the rooting of a few cuttings. Leaving some or all leaves intact in the cuttings appeared favorable in rooting, although callus formed in it did not differentiate into roots. All pili trees studied responded well to marcotting (48.08%). Rooting response was 22.22 and 53.49% for male and female trees, respectively. Indole-Butyric Acid (IBA) at 0, 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 ppm in lanolin paste showed varying effects on root promotion. For a hard to root strain, IBA did not improve rooting. IBA at 1000 and 4000 ppm gave 80% rooting in moderately easy to root strain compared with 30% rooting for the control. Whereas, an easy-to-root strain, treated and control branches gave 50-70% rooting. Spraying with 100 ppm NAA delayed leaf abscission in severed marcots for seven days. Control marcots and those treated with 186 ppm NAA exhibited maximum defoliation three to four days after severance. Misting established 25 out of 30 marcots
