Title StatementOn-farm adaptation trial of promising fertilizer management practices for rice production in the Cordilleras
General NoteMunoz, Nueva Ecija: Philippine Rice Institute, 1991. pp. 62-69. -(RRDP-PCARRD-TPP-PhilRice Proj. II,
Summary, Etc.The study aimed to evaluate on-farm effectiveness of indigenous organic fertilizers on the growth and yield of rice in the Cordilleras. No results were obtained from the 1989 wet season trials because a series of typhoons destroyed the experiments. In the 1990 dry season, yields under the different treatments were relatively high (5,389-6,922 kg/ha) indicating a very high native soil fertility in the testing site. Highest yield was attained in plots applied with 60 kg inorganic N/ha but this yield was not significantly different from the plots applied with 20 and 40 kg inorganic N/ha, respectively. Wild sunflower alone produced relatively higher yield. However, azolla alone did not increase yield. It must be supplemented by inorganic nitrogen to obtain yield comparable with that applied with at least 40 kg inorganic N/ha. The nutrient supplying potentials of azolla and sunflower would make both very good organic fertilizers in rice
