$aTwo groups from 247 open and reproductively normal female carabaos were used: one exhibiting natural estrus period and the other induced through administering Prostaglandin (PGF2 alpha). The average estrus duration, time of duration, and length of estrus cycle of induced carabaos were recorded at 24.1 hours, 13.25 hours, and 22.01, days, respectively. Female carabaos with natural estrus had 7.17 hours of ovulation time and 22.48 days average length of the estrus cycle. Signs of estrus as mounting and copious mucous discharge in determining estrus were absent in estrus-induced carabaos but the cervical mucous ferning pattern examination was found practical and adaptable under field conditions.
