$aLocal carbon and office waste papers were deinked with two, four and six percent sodium hydroxide (NAOH) at 50 and 70 deg C for one hour at four percent consistency. Calcium hypochlorite at one and two percent was added to office waste paper to produce bleached pulp. Strong pulp was produced from deinking of carton waste at 6% NAOH, 1% calcium hypochlorite at 70 deg C. Application of2% calcium hypochlorite produced pulp of desirable brightness. Experimental bag, wrapping and writing papers were produced. Paper with highest strength was produced from blends using 70/30 ratio of waste paper to imported long fiber pulp. It passed the Grade C for bag and wrapping paper and Type II bond mimeograph paper based on the PHILSA standard specification.
