Title StatementFeasibility of pure herbal extracts as substitute colorants for water colors
Physical Description(L-10);5p
Summary, Etc.Water colors are indispensable since they are widely used by students. At present, the tube-type water color is more preferred. Since it is being manufactured in other countries, it is expensive. Due to the product\'s high cost, the feasibility of herbal extracts as a cheaper source of colorant for water colors was tested. Plants of different colors were gathered and washed thoroughly to remove dirt and other foreign materials. Using mortar and pestle, the plants were ground in order for the juice to be extracted. The extracted juice was filtered through a fine cloth. Different colors were prepared by mixing a fixed amount of plant extract with a certain amount of cassava flour until desired consistency was acquired. To determine the acceptability of the experimental water colors, a panel evaluation by the faculty members was done. The color, the consistency and the texture of the paper when marked by the experimental products were tested. Pure herbal extract is a feasible, cheaper and non-toxic colorant for tube-type water colors
