$aThis paper depicts the general socioeconomic and ecological picture of Nueva Ecija province, the area with which the Asian Survey on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ASSARD, Philippines) Third Regional sessions deal. It serves as an introduction to the place and people - the sociocultural matrix and ecological setting - in which development efforts are being extended. Data are presented statistically and in the mode of various censuses. The history and establishment of Nueva Ecija, its physical and social infrastructure, sociocultural characteristics, economy, and physical and natural resources are all presented in the survey.
