Title StatementEffect of agricultural crops on soil and hydrologic characteristics of Quiaoit River watershed
General NoteCollege, Laguna: FORI, 1986. 41p
Summary, Etc.The effect of some agricultural crops on soil and hydrologic characteristics to stabilize sloping areas was investigated in Northwestern Luzon Forest Research Center, Batac, Ilocos Norte from 1980 to 1984. Surface run-off was not significantly affected by slope and agricultural crops. Peanut gave the highest yearly average surface run-off with 60.02 m/ha followed by camote with 59.00 cu m/ha. Control had the least surface run-off with only 6.74 cu m/ha. Slope gave a highly significant effect on soil erosion but no significant effect was observed on agricultural crops. However, sediment yield was not significantly affected by slope and agricultural crops. Peanut also yielded the highest sediment with 0.53 kg followed by gabi, camote and cassava with 0.07, 0.02 and 0.19 kg, respectively. The least sediment yield was obtained in the control with only 0.01 kg. The infiltration rate was highest in plot planted to peanut with 3.51 cm/hr, followed by gabi (1.99 cm/hr), cassava (1.97 cm/hr), camote (1.21 cm/hr), and the control (0.47 cm/hr). Soil physical and chemical properties generally increased throughout the duration of the study
