Summary, Etc.aThis study presents the realities of family violence in the Philippines and recommendations for change. It is an attempt to shed more light into the phenomenon of violence within the home and among family members. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, the study found several significant facts about family violence. Most notable is that family violence consists of several forms of abuses (physical, verbal, economic, emotional, and sexual) that occur in various combinations. Another finding indicated that most victims are women and children who experience violence repeatedly at varying periods of time. The most common perpetrators of assaults on women are their male spouses or partners, accounting for more than half of the cases. The child molester or abuser is significantly older than his victim and the most frequent abusers of female children are their fathers and their uncles. Most child abuse takes place at home while the victim is alone, and the majority of the victims delay or entirely avoid reporting the abuse. Emotional trauma is the commonly cited consequence of abuse. Several recommendations to address the issue are cited.0
