Summary, Etc.Finally, to keep up with the technology, it is recommended that a more advanced user-interactive system be developed based on the modules contained in this work
Having established that this prototype program was acceptable to users and that it could be an effective means of introducing library usage to patrons, its installation in computer terminals accessible to the College of Science Library users is being recommended. It is also recommended for adaptation in other libraries with computerized library systems
The prototype computerized library user orientation/instruction was conceptualized, designed and initially laid-out in a paper model. The College of Science Library's existing user library guides, manual, signs and posters, circulars, staff seminar-workshop proceedings, were used as reference materials for the course content. In addition, personal interviews with the library staff were conducted to get first-hand accounts of problems and issues accompanying regular library transactions
The user orientation/instruction program was produced with the use of a text-and-graphics software (Harvard Graphics for Windows version 1). The completed program consisted of seven modules, with each module lasting an average of two minutes. The program provided prompts and utility keys for easy navigation
This study aims to produce a computer-based orientation/instruction for users of the College of Science Library. The prototype orientation program should be self-guiding and simple enough for users to develop proficiency at manipulating it within reasonable time. The program should serve as a tool for library users to acquaint themselves with the: 1) library's physical facilities, services, procedures and policies; and 2) skills and technical know-how on the systematic use of library resources
Upon completion, the program was subjected to test and evaluation by users of the College of Science Library. Feedback through a questionnaire was used to measure its effectivity and acceptability. Respondents were students, the intended users of the orientation program. Results indicated that the majority of the students found the orientation program an effective and satisfactory means of learning basic library skills
